Diane Caccavo, Denise Bennett and Barbara Padget
Dr. Russell Sarver sent a letter to acknowledge the extraordinary effort that Diane Caccavo RPh made in helping him care for a very sick patient in the Davis Special Care Unit. The patient had a problem related to severe, ongoing urinary bleeding, had failed multiple attempts at treatment and was too unstable to manage the problem surgically. Diane went to great lengths to help Dr. Sarver obtain a specific pharmaceutical item to be used for treatment and then spent substantial time and effort to assure that the product was available for immediate use. She helped work through issues related to safety, preparation and cost. Within a day the medication was available. Diane spent extra weekend time dealing with this issue and then more time because there was a new pharmacist coming on shift after her and she didn’t want to “dump” the project on him. “I was very impressed with how Diane handled this whole situation, and ultimately the patient’s bleeding stopped so we had a favorable patient outcome.”
According to Pharmacy Director Frank Foti RPh, this was a team effort and two other staff members, Pharmacy Techs Denise Bennett and Barbara Padget participated in achieving this Above and Beyond endeavor.
